YF --> ANIME --> Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's The New Age of Yu-Gi-Oh! Begins... THE FUTURE OF DUELING IS HEATING UP!
Starting on April 2nd 2008, Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's succeeded Yu-Gi-Oh! GX as the primary Yu-Gi-Oh! series in Japan, after GX ended in March. The new series features new characters including Yusei Fudo (the cool and intelligent duelist of the future), Aki Izayoi (the girl of the group, with a mysterious ESP power), twins Rua and Ruka (one calm and collected, the other lively and blundering) and Jack Atlas (the mysterious and powerful King of Riding Duelists). THE TIME First there was was Yugi Muto, who resided and began his dueling career at the end of the 20th century. Then cam Now, Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's brings dueling up several levels. Taking place decades in the future to almost the 22nd century. Here, technology is commonplace; electrical vehicles run on renewable energy and in-built computers. Holographic projection is everywhere from billboards to desktop PCs to mobile phones. But, there is a downside. The line between rich and poor is thicker and much much much more obvious, dystopia and utopia literally existing alongside eachother. But is this utopia truly as great as it seems? THE SETTING The series is set, as was Yu-Gi-Oh! and part of Yu-Gi-Oh! GX, the city of Domino. However, Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's takes place in the far future, where, for unknown reasons, the city has changed dramatically. It is now a hierarchial city of the future, built in the form of levels, the Tops area and the Satellite area (and possibly an unseen middle area), known as Neo Domino! Yusei resides in the Satellite area, the deep low level of the city. It is inhabited by the poor; those who failed keep up when the upper level of the city, the Tops area, arose. Although the exact cause of this is unknown, it seems that at some point the society and/or economy of Domino City collapsed, and the old city was left to turn into the decapitated, deserted area it now is. The new Jetsons-esque city, built high above the old, is the home of the rich and powerful, including duel king Jack Atlus, and is also the home of the many Duel Arenas, the main attractions of Neo Domino. THE DUELING Due to the incredible amount of time that has passed since the original series, it is only natural that dueling has evolved. That includes both the technology and the rules themselves. Firstly, dueling is not just done standing up anymore. Duelists take part in things call To see a biography of the characters, visit our Characters page. |
