YF --> ANIME --> Duelist Kingdom
The Duelist Kingdom is an island situated off the coast of America where the best of the best of the best come to duel. The island is owned by none other than Maximillion Pegasus, the creator of Duel Monsters. Only in the third episode, Pegasus throws a tournament at Duelist Kingdom, to which he invited the best duelists in the world. However, unknown to them all, Pegasus already planned the entire layout of the tournament, right up to who he would duel in the finals. Duelist Kingdom is an island created especially for dueling. Each monster has a type of field that it does best on, and what makes Duelist Kingdom so special, is that it contains every type of field imaginable - Field, Mountain, Ocean, Wasteland, Forest and Darkness. In the centre of the Island is Pegasus' castle, the location of the finals and Pegasus' living quarters. Underneath the island is a whole array of tunnels honeycombed across the entire thing. There are several prison cells, secret doors and hidden dueling arenas in these tunnels.
In the Duelist Kingdom Tournament, all competitors begin with two starchips. The aim of the tournament is to gain 10 starchips, and they can keep the starchips on a duelling glove that they each receive. The duelists must wager these starchips on every duel they play, and the first 4 players to gain 10 starchips will earn a place in the finals. As obvious, Yugi and his gang make it into the castle for a place in the finals. The finals line-up are as follows - Yugi, Joey, Mai and Bandit Keith. Little do they know, Bandit Keith cheated his way into the finals. The Semi finals are - Yugi vs. Mai and Joey vs. Bandit Keith. Yugi and Joey are each victorious, and therefore have to duel eachother in the final. As expected, Yugi wins and goes onto face Pegasus. Yugi's prize for beating Joey is the 1 million dollar prize, which he immmediately gives to Joey to pay for Joey's sister's operation. Yugi then faces Pegasus, requesting that if he wins Pegasus must release the three souls of Kaiba, Mokuba and Solomon Muto. Pegasus agrees, but if Yugi loses then Pegasus can take Yugi's soul.
To blackmail Yugi into competing in his tournament (why he would do this is unknown to Yugi) Pegasus captures Yugi's Grandfather's soul. Yugi sees no choice but to enter the tournament and save his Grandfather. Whilst he is there, he and his best friend Joey encounter many tough duelists (see below) but eventually make it to the finals. When they get there, they are astonished to find Kaiba there, and it is then that they learn that Pegasus also captured the soul of Kaiba's brother Mokuba. Kaiba is instantly challenged to a duel by Pegasus. If Kaiba wins, Pegasus will give up Mokuba's soul. If Pegasus wins, he will capture Kaiba's soul. Kaiba fights his hardest, but in the end loses to Pegasus and meets the same fate as his brother. The finals begin and Yugi battles his way to the final match between him and Pegasus (see above for a discription of the finals). His only request to Pegasus is that he released the soul of his Grandfather and the Kaiba brothers, but if Pegasus can win then he will take Yugi's soul and his Millenium Puzzle. After a long duel lasting nearly 5 episodes, Yugi becomes the
victor. After the duel, Pegasus is devastated and retreats to his room, where
he is ambushed by none other than Bakura under the control of the Spirit of
the Mmillenium Ring! The Spirit challenges Pegasus to a shadow game and wins.
The Spirit then take's Pegasus' Millenium Eye as his prize. Yugi and his friends
discover that Pegasus has taken ill, but are oblivious to the fact it was
Bakura's fault. When they get up to Pegasus' sanctuary, they find three blank
soul cards and a diary. Judging by the three blank soul cards, they conclude
that Pegasus must have kept up his end of the bargain. From the diary they
learn Pegasus' secret.
Pegasus set up the Duelist Kingdom out of love. Love for his dead wife Cecilia. He believed that if he can harness the magic of the Millenium Items, and channel it into the high-tech technology at Kaiba Corp., he may be able to bring Cecilia back from the dead. How this actually worked was never revealed. Perhaps he planned to create a solid hologram of Cecilia? No one knows for sure. However, in order for this plan to work he had to take over Kaiba Corp., but because only a Kaiba family member can legally control Kaiba Corp., Pegasus captured Mokuba Kaiba. And by this he knew that he could force Mokuba to run the company his way, however he had to eliminate Kaiba, a fact that was also woven into his plan. Not only would Mokuba be running Kaiba Corp., he would also be bait to draw in Kaiba. As we know, this plan succeeded and Pegasus defeated Kaiba. It seems that it was a success, however Yugi was standing in Pegasus' way. Because of this, Pegasus had to defeat Yugi, which would not only cause this plan to succeed, but also allow Pegasus control of the Millenium Puzzle - killing two birds with one stone. Unfortunately for Pegasus, Yugi won the duel. And with that he released the souls of the Kaiba brothers, instantly putting Kaiba Corp. back in their control.
Weevil Underwood is not an Insect Duelist. He is THE Insect Duelist. The regional champion of duel monsters (a title won by defeating Rex Raptor) he is extremely obnoxious, but still very powerful. He is known to be a cheater. He finds out things that he's not supposed to know so that he can prepare for them in advance, and he sabotages any opponents that he thinks may be a threat (this is demonstrated with incidents including throwin Yugi's Exodia cards into the ocean and inserting a parasite card into Joey's deck before the duel began).
Just like Weevil, Rex is not a Dino Duelist. He is THE Dino Duelist. Equally as evil and big headed as Weevil, his deck is pure beatdown. There are only two things that Weevil has that Rex does not. They are - The ability to cheat (and yet I wouldn't put it past him that he is trying) and the title of regional champion. Rex was the duelist that Weevil defeated to become champion, making him the runner-up. Later on the supreme evil and power that he shares with Weevil will cause them both to team up. |
